The author's experience (over 40 years) in the preparation of professionals in the field of computer engineering is the basis of this publication. The main directions and ways to improve this training are reviewed and analyzed. Numerous examples are given. Some pedagogical and psychological advice as well as specific issues of motivating students and using various competitive incentives are also considered. Special attention (with many examples) on the use of computer simulation as an object of design and as a learning tool to improve the efficiency of the educational process. The use of Internet technology and experience of creating a unique DonNTU Masters portal also described in the same context. Search and use in the classroom of laws is also important to improve training in the field of computer science and technology. This value can be compared with the value of Dmitri Mendeleev periodic system of elements in the study of chemistry.
